Co-sponsored by multiple Illinois libraries and held in partnership with Racial Awareness in the North Shore (RAIN), Together is Better Alliance (TiBA), the Tinley Park Public Library is proud to offer free streaming of this documentary film. The Long Shadow follows former CNN Senior Producer, TED contributor, and Emmy-Award winning Director Frances Causey as she traces her family’s legacy of white privilege. From a lens of critical anti-racism, the film uses historically racist imagery and visuals to tell a painful story about white supremacy.
Visit http://thelongshadowfilm.com/libraries/ to stream the film any time between June 21-28, 2021 or watch anytime on Kanopy with a Tinley Park Library card.
Message from the Filmmakers:
Thank you so much for watching and sharing The Long Shadow. You are part of a community helping to spread the message that the work of equity and quality must fall in the hands of white Americans. We’re honored that the film is educating & guiding so many about what it takes to make an important change to the way that white Americans view their role in racial justice work. We know that the story of slavery and Jim Crow is an American story and is not one that the African-American community is responsible for repairing.
